Liver Distribution Policy- Example 2
The liver distribution policy passed by the OPTN Board of Directors in December 2018 replaces Donation Service Areas and regions with a series of circles for distributing livers.
Under this policy, after initial offers to Status 1A and 1B candidates, livers are distributed to candidates with a MELD/PELD score of 37 or higher at transplant hospitals within a particular radius of nautical miles from the donor hospital.
