Despite the sugar-coated image that Kim Jong-Un wishes to display regarding North Korea, the truth is much harsher than some might expect. Access to running water and electricity is restricted to only a few hours a day for those in the capital of Pyongyang and for those living in rural areas, they may only have access for a few days a year. These restrictions are severely affecting the people of North Korea as their basic human needs and rights aren’t being met.
A defector from Pyongyang shared their shock when they realised that running water and electricity were available at all times in South Korea, as they were so used to having their utilities controlled by the North Korean government.
