These candid conversations (during the social distancing of the Coronavirus pandemic) with Allen are being held as a standing weekly appointment. In the coming weeks we will discuss various aspects of percussion history and literature.
This week we begin a conversation about graphic notations by discussing composers of fanciful and beautiful scores from the 1950's and 60's including John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Morton Feldman, Earle Brown, and others. Next week we'll discussing specific works in a bit more depth and getting a look at some of Al's scores.
One of the pieces we talked about was December 1952 by Earle Brown. Check out the website below to learn a bit more about that work and is piece, Four Systems: http://www.earle-brown.org/works/view/12
