It was a great privilege working on this rendition of Michelle Branch’s classic hit. What a great artist! I wanted to put my own spin on it, so I boosted the tempo and came at it from a more pop-punk angle. I hope to write songs this good someday, but I’ll settle for covering them for now :)
*Fun fact: After recording all the guitar tracks, I went straight into recording the bass track. Right when I started though, I realized I had forgotten to record intro guitars altogether and had already relocated my guitar safely to the basement to focus on bass. So I thought to myself, “Coincidence? Let’s see what I can do with a bass for the intro instead.” So I laid down the intro bass line the way it is now and slapped an organ over top of it. And it flowed. Moral of the story is, if you make a mistake, try rolling with it. The result might turn out better than your original plan. P
