The context of the Cold War pushed the USSR to develop its first atomic weapons under the most secretive conditions. In order to ensure total confidentiality, entire towns with tens of thousands of inhabitants have been formed around strategic research centers without appearing on the maps or receiving names. I grew up in one of them.
