Jeffrey Skidmore conductor

“Music is a world within itself - with a language we all understand” (Stevie Wonder)

On Jeffrey Skidmore’s 70th birthday, we invite you to join us for a virtual voyage Around the World to destinations as diverse and beautiful as Rio de Janeiro, Sucre, Milan, Versailles, and the Isle of Skye.

This free*, 40-minute online concert explores Jeffrey’s varied interests, his research trips, and the many journeys in music he has conducted with Ex Cathedra. There will be glorious music from the Latin American and French Baroque, little-known gems from the Italian Renaissance and Jacobean era, and traditional favourites from Sweden and Scotland.

Into this melting pot we have added Liz Dilnot Johnson’s inspirational "Blake Reimagined" with its fusion of English, Indian classical and improvisation, and a fabulous, fun arrangement of Ben E. King’s "Stand by me" from 1960s America - a life-changing decade for Jeffrey in which his family emigrated to New England and he returned alone to Birmingham and founded Ex Cathedra.

Don’t miss this audiovisual extravaganza, with films created by Thomas Lowen and Simon Peter King, who has toured with The Drifters.

*We'd be very grateful if you can make a donation in lieu of a ticket to help us recoup some of the costs of presenting this concert. Thank you.
