In 2013 the composition La Canción de la Tierra by Mesias Maiguashca was premiered in the Palacio de Cristal in Itchimbía, a hill overlooking the city of Quito. The work was written for an Andean Instruments Orchestra, symphonic band, choir and Sound Objects created by myself. It was performed from 5:00 to 6:00 in the morning, parallel to dawn, on June 21, the day when the Andean Indians celebrate their god, Inti, the sun. The composition consists of 19 canciones, which refer to different aspects of the indigenous traditions: the three cosmogonic worlds (the worlds above, here and below), phenomena of nature (water, hail), natural and mythical animals (guacamayos, pumas), geography (the mountain range, the rainbow), etc.
This event could not be recorded properly. As a memory and documentation of it, Maiguashca decided to create a new work with the musical materials of the concert and images generated by Carlos Poete-
After years of work we have just finished it. The concert version with audio Ambisonics technique, was produced in the Studio of the ICST/ZHdK (Zürich), Johannes Schütt, sound engineer. By invitation of the Festival Radical Sounds of Latin America this work will be performed in Berlin, as an european premiere
