How to Create a Yin-yang Symbol | Inkscape Tutorial
Step-by-step Instructions
0:00 | Make sure Snapping is enabled.
0:13 | Create a circle.
0:31 | Set the size of the circle to 250mm x 250mm. (Optional)
0:45 | Duplicate the circle and reduce its size to half.
0:52 | Duplicate the previous circle and place it below.
0:56 | Repeat the last two steps on both circles.
1:07 | Now, duplicate one of the four small circles and make it snap to the bigger circle it is inside of.
1:12 | Reduce its size til it snaps to the edge of one of the circles.
1:20 | Center the circle.
1:35 | Duplicate the previous circle and place it below to make it mirrored.
1:40 | Remove the four same-sized circles.
1:46 | Make a rectangle and have it cover half of the circle.
2:02 | Duplicate the rectangle.
2:05 | Select one rectangle and one of the medium-sized circles, go to Path and select Difference.
2:09 | Now, select the remaining rectangle and have it cover the other half of the circle.
2:13 | Select the rectangle and the remaining medium-sized circle, go to Path, and select Difference.
2:20 | Select one of the halved circles.
2:21 | Select Edit Path By Nodes Tool or press 'N'.
2:24 | Add nodes by double-clicking and make the shape cover half of the big circle. (Watch the video for more clarity)
2:37 | Select the big circle and duplicate by pressing 'Ctrl + D'.
2:40 | Select the new circle and the previously edited shape.
2:42 | Go to Path and select Intersection.
2:52 | Select the remaining halved circle and duplicate it.
2:54 | Select the previous halved circle and the recently formed shape and press 'Ctrl + -' to subtract the shape.
3:05 | To color, select the recent swirl shape and the small circle outisde of it and color it black.
3:12 | Now, select the other side of the swirl and the remaining uncolored small circle and color them white.
3:20 | Select all the shapes and press 'Shift' while clicking the X box on the lower-left corner to remove Strokes.
3:27 | And that's it!
Additional and optional step: If you want to have two swirls instead of just one, select the black swirl and the white circle and go to Path and select Difference or press 'Ctrl + -'. Now you can delete the white halved circle.
