Exploring Goten'yama in Shinagawa
I took a stroll around the remains of a former mountain in Edo's Shinagawa-shuku. Goten'yama was a famous cherry blossom spot with a commanding view of Edo Bay, but was destroyed by the shōgunate in 1853 to build a series of cannon batteries to protect the city from foreign invasion.
