Lecture by Prof. Dr. Christian von Hirschhausen (Technical University of Berlin) on the impact of the war in Ukraine on the energy transition. Presented as part of the public lecture series at the University of Göttingen on January 17, 2023.

The lecture series for the 2022/23 winter semester addresses the consequences of the war in Ukraine. The first three lectures examine the impact on agricultural production, trade, food security, and agricultural policy from the perspectives of practical agriculture, international agricultural trade, and academia. Following a lecture on the question of the independence of the Ukrainian language from a scholarly perspective, a critical look is taken at the domestic political developments in Ukraine before and since the war. The complex role of the Orthodox churches is also discussed. Two further lectures address the consequences of the conflict for the Ukrainian population and Ukrainian refugees in Germany and the EU.

The subsequent lectures address the topic of energy supply and policy in Germany and the EU, attempt an international and historical contextualization of the aid Ukraine has received and still requires, and explore the question of whether a new bloc formation and an end to globalization are imminent. The final lecture will examine the consequences for the global coordination of agricultural and food policy.
