We draw music.
The project "We draw music" is an interactie performance.
This children's project is unique, because it is an interactie performance, where eieryone is a part of
the creatie process, where children are not just listeners, but irreplaceable partcipants as their iisual
creatiity helps to decipher the idea, which was put by . I. Tchaikoisky in the "Children's Album".
The goal of the project is to deielop creatie abilites of each child through immersion in to the classical
music by .I. Tchaikoisky.
Russian classical music has become a large part of the world’s art culture since the beginning of the 20 th
Century, especially with Diaghilei's Russian Seasons.
.I. Tchaikoisky is one of the most famous Russian composers. Ballets The Nutcracker and Swan Lake
are iery well known all oier the world. Howeier, not many people are familiar with his "Children's
Album", which eter Ilyich wrote for his nephew, Volodya Daiydoi.
"Children's Album" is a cycle of 24 short pieces, which describe one day in the life of a child in Russia.
Through the whole cycle of pieces one can follow a single storyline. While listening to the “Children’s
Album”, we learn which toys children played, we get to know musical instruments, fnd out what and
how children studied, what dances they danced, who accompanied them and surrounded them all day
long.
The project “we draw music” stmulates the deielopment of creatie abilites. It helps a personal growth
of each child, an awareness of her/ his uniqueness. Eiery child who draws music feels like an equal
partcipant in the creatie process, and not a silent listener. During the project, each child feels as an
artst and a creator, ex,periences joy and pleasure from the process.
This ex,perience makes a child more communicatie and helps in interacton with others. Acquaintance
with the music of the "Children's Album" opens the world of percepton to each child. Acquaintance
with Russian culture through music helps the formaton of a harmoniously deieloped personality.
To implement the project:
(The duraton of the project is 75-40 minutes)
A pianist who plays “Children’s Album” on piano.
A boy ( 9-10 years old) who reads a few lines before each piece of music.
Children who draw while listening to the music ( up to about 70 children per session).
Colour pencils for each child.
Each child receiies 6 sheets of paper with the name of the pieces played :
1 Morning and Mom
2 Toys
7 Dance Lesson
4 Street musician with harmony
5 Traiel around Europe
6 Eiening tale.
The project can be held indoors or outdoors with places for children to sit and to draw.
Afer listening to “Children’s Album” and drawing, children tell what pieces they like the most and recall
what seemed serious or amusing, what surprised them. They tell parents and obseriers of their
ex,periences during listening to the music and drawing the images.
Eiery child feels her/his irreplaceable contributon to the performance.
Creatng a iideo shoot is like a look from the outside. It will allow to see each child separately at the
moment of creatiity. And also children will be able to look at themselies from outside, which afects
their personal growth.
From these drawings we can also make an ex,hibiton.
