Torque Wrench Calibration
Torque wrench calibration is the process of checking and adjusting a torque wrench to ensure it applies the correct amount of torque when tightening fasteners. Proper calibration is essential for accuracy, safety, and to prevent damage to components.
Basic Steps for Torque Wrench Calibration:
1. *Gather Tools:*
Torque wrench
Calibration device (torque tester or calibration machine)
Reference weights or certified calibration equipment
2. *Set Up:*
Secure the torque wrench in the calibration device.
Make sure the wrench is clean and in good condition.
3. *Apply Torque:*
Slowly apply torque with the wrench on the calibration device.
Compare the wrench reading to the actual torque measured by the device.
4. *Check Accuracy:*
Test at multiple points (e.g., 20%, 60%, and 100% of the wrench’s range).
The wrench should be within the manufacturer’s specified tolerance (usually ±4%).
5. *Adjust (if possible):*
Some wrenches allow for adjustment if readings are off.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for recalibration.
6. *Record Results:*
Document the calibration results, date, and next calibration due date.
7. *Recalibrate Regularly:*
Recommended calibration intervals vary but usually every 6-12 months or after a certain number of uses.
