Utah Blaze wide receiver Aaron Lesué has been awarded the Cutters Catch of the Week for his diving touchdown reception against the Chicago Rush in Week 6, the Arena Football League announced Tuesday. The second quarter score was one of three on the night for Lesué, who finished with eight receptions for 136 yards.
With 2:42 remaining in the half, Utah set out on its fourth possession of the game. On the first play of the drive, Lesué beat his defender deep on a post pattern before executing a diving touchdown reception that sent him sliding into the end zone. Lesué was initially ruled down by contact, but officials overturned the call after a coach's challenge confirmed the score.
"When I broke on the route, I knew the ball would be in the air," Lesué explained. "Tommy put it where only I could get to it so I had to make an effort to go for it. I had to dive for it, but as soon as I saw it I knew it would be a touchdown."
"That was a play that we drew up based on the film and based on the tendencies we saw in the defense. I was lucky to have to opportunity to capitalize in that situation. Tommy threw a great ball and I'm lucky Coach Sauk counted on me and gave me the chance to make a play."
