I'm Thinking of Quitting YouTube & DCS World
Hey guys, we have hit a very significant milestone on the Channel and I wanted to thank you all for your support over the years as we celebrate 70,000 Subscribers.
But at the same time I also wanted to give my thoughts on why I haven't been uploading much lately, and talk about why I have been thinking about quitting YouTube and DCS World lately. Being a creator on YouTube and in the DCS World Space in general is getting harder and harder, and that coupled with certain folks stoking negativity and hate in the DCS World community has made it very hard to be relaxed enough to make videos and be myself because I have been constantly chasing a the perfect video that satisfies the haters, the Youtube Algorithm and myself.
Being a YouTuber is also getting harder to justify to myself as my income from youtube becomes and smaller and smaller ratio of my overall income as my career takes off and the opportunity cost of spending more time with family, friends, my dog and real life fun flying as me feeling rather guilty about expending so much time and effort on the Spudknocker YouTube channel.
The amount the channel makes compared to the number of hours and effort expended means that I am effectively working on the channel for far less than minimum wage with the calculated income sometimes as low as $0.50 an hour. And its getting harder and harder to justify this with how unhappy the channel makes me at times.
But as much as I have been struggling lately, I still love DCS World, and I enjoy making videos, I just have to get back to a point where I am once again just doing it for the love of the game, and making videos I find fun and interesting.
All that being said though, this past weekend has really restored my faith in DCS and the community after finally having a successful Sunday mission in the Spuds Buds Discord server. It was an absolute blast and a huge weight off my shoulders to finally have fun in a mission with no server or DCS issues with a number of community members I would call some of my best friends, flying a gaggle of F-4E Phantom II’s over the Hindu Kush.
I can’t thank the guys of the Digital Controllers Group and the members of my community who participated in the mission this past Sunday… you guys really pulled me out of an inverted flat spin that I didn’t think I was going to recover from… You Guys All Rock!
