How To Replace Your Tired & Weak Rear Hatch Struts On Your BMW (3, 5, X Series)

Here is a quick tutorial for replacing the rear hatch struts that support and lift the rear hatch on my 2010 BMW E91 328i Touring/Sport Wagon. The process should be very similar on other 3-series, 5-series and even X-series BMW's...basically anything with a rear hatch.

Here is the part number for the rear strut, please verify that this part fits your vehicle as different cars/hatches will use a different part. This strut is specific to E91 Wagons.

I used vice grips to lock the old struts and support the hatch. There are specific tools that do this if you do not want to use vice grips or do not have them.
