Did you know that African Americans were fighting for America even before it became a country? From the American Revolution to the Civil War, African Americans have always been on the frontlines. But how many of us know about the brave Buffalo Soldiers and their incredible legacy?
After the Civil War, the United States faced the monumental challenge of rebuilding and integrating millions of formerly enslaved people into society. During this turbulent period, the first black units in the regular army were formed: the 9th and 10th Cavalry and the 38th, 39th, 40th, and 41st Infantry Regiments. These soldiers, later known as Buffalo Soldiers, played a crucial role in maintaining order and protecting the rights of newly freed African Americans.
