Nihan Özum is one of two daughters in a wealthy family. However, after finishing school, she chose not to continue her education and, despite her family's surprise and objections, married Engin, a young and idealistic teacher, in her early twenties. Engin Çenker was born and raised in Anatolia, moving from city to city following his civil servant father's transfers. Despite all the objections of his father, who eventually retired in Istanbul, he enrolled in teacher training college and dedicated himself to education. His idealism deeply influenced Nihan. Surrounded by boundless opportunities, Nihan began to feel increasingly useless with each passing day. Noticing that this feeling was fading with Engin, she agreed to marry him, believing it would open the door to a more meaningful life. At first, everything went smoothly for the two lovers: traveling through villages and towns with each new assignment, discovering new places and people, seemed charming to Nihan. But over time, this "environment full of restrictions" began to stifle her and make her long for the old days. For Nihan, this sense of "discovery" was nothing more than a youthful infatuation. When their life, full of difficulties and food shortages, was supplemented by two children, life became unbearable for Nihan, who had grown up like a princess, and she decided she couldn't continue living like this.
