1st is Conventional is the slowest but best for knotty softwoods with a maul, which is the slowest and hardest on back as you have to lift the full weight of the round.
2nd is the flick, takes most experience, danger of hitting axe on the ground but is the fastest despite having the biggest knot even in this case.
3rd is what I would call making boards, great on straight grained hardwoods in particular, you don't have to lift the full round and the boards are easy to handle and fast to split up into small pieces. My favourite way for ash wood
