Why John Adams Hated Being Vice President
After coming in second in the presidential election of 1788 John Adams became the first Vice President of the United States. It's a position he would soon come to despise.
Vice President John Adams was perhaps one of the unhappiest of all vice presidents. A naturally argumentative and opinionated man the position that required restraint and moderation was in contrast to his personality. He hated it so much that he even became resentful of President George Washington and many of those around him and even considered resigning.
John Adams would eventually get his wish to become president after winning the election of 1796. His son John Quincy Adams would later also serve as president after winning the election of 1824.
