How Did They Create Super Mario 64? Mario's Jump from Pixel to Legend (Episode 6)
It was 1996 when Pokémon Red and Green were released in Japan for the Game Boy, causing a sensation among gamers of the time. Square Enix released Super Mario RPG, a game that would mark the beginning of role-playing games starring Mario. Later that same year, the now-defunct E3 (a convention packed with video game industry icons) held its second edition in North America in Los Angeles, California. Nintendo launched a new console, which took graphics to a new level: three dimensions. This new hardware was launched alongside one of the most iconic games of that era, a new Mario title that offered an impressive graphical leap forward, and which many of us saw in magazines and articles because it was practically impossible to get our hands on on its release day or in the following months. A game that would usher in a new era in the entertainment industry.
