They Called Amanda’s Cancer Appeal a Scam… Here’s the Truth
Amanda is a young mother in Portugal recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She urgently needs surgery at a private hospital because the public system waiting times are dangerously long. With treatment now, her cancer is localized and survival chances are over 99%. If delayed, those odds can drop to just 32%.
In this video, I respond directly to some of the hurtful accusations that Amanda’s fundraiser is a “scam.” These comments are not just insulting—they’re serious claims of fraud. So I’m addressing them openly, with facts, compassion, and full transparency.
The truth is clear:
Public cancer treatment in Portugal is free at the point of use, but delays are common.
Expresso reported in April 2025 that nearly 80% of oncology patients waited longer than the legal maximum just to get their first consultation.
Amanda doesn’t have that time. Urgent private surgery is the only safe option.
