You can actually create sophisticated picture animation in Microsoft PowerPoint by applying animation effects to text. Just add atext box with some hyphens. Apply a large font and under Format/WordArt Styles/Text Effect choose Transform/Warp/Curve up. Adjust the text box to the right size. In the Format Shape pane under Text Options select Picture or textrure fill. Check Tile picture as texture and adjust the offset to position the picture as you like. In the Home tab go to the Font group/Character Spacing and check Tight Text Spacing to get a seamless picture. Change the color of the background (optional). As a last step add the animations to the text box in the Animations tab. I have the Zoom and Spin effects. In the animation pane under Effect Options/Enhancements animate text by letter for both effects (important). The spin effect has to start with previous animation and both effects have to have the same % delay between letters under Effect Options/Enhancements and same duration under Timing to be performed simultaneously.
