Dog allergies? Read this! I hope my experience can help you with your dog’s discomfort. Sky’s problems started in late April of 2022. We first noticed it when he licked his paws almost continuously. It was so bad that he would keep us up at night licking constantly. The fur on his paws turned brown from the contact with the saliva. One of the confusing details was his issues were only noticeable on his front paws.

May 9th. Veterinarian prescribed Neo-Predef powder to apply twice daily. The licking continued. I started him on Curaseb Chlorehidine spray after I did some research and learned that it might be a fungus or yeast infection. I added Finn Allergy and Itch soft chews in early June. These did offer some relief, but still he had redness and was limping, especially on gravel.

Before our vacation in Costa Rica I took him back to my veterinarian on July 9th. She agreed with current strategies and discussed next steps if he was still having issues. I added Forticept Blue Butter, antimicrobial gel in mid-July, trying to sooth his paws as much as possible. We vacationed in Costa Rica at the end of July and his licking was bad enough that the person watching him put a cone on him to prevent him from further aggravating his paws. She recommended adding Gold Bond powder to possible help with any moisture on his paws. I did some more research and added Clotrimazole Cream 1% upon returning home.

September 1st, went back to veterinarian and started Prednisone and Apoquel. Did great until Apoquel ran out. Licking started again.
October 31st, vet visit , more Prednisone, Cefpodoxime (antibiotic) and more Apoquel. Also did allergy blood work.
Sky tested severely allergic to 15 allergens.
November 22nd, started daily allergen serum
Long term prognosis is unknown, but he is currently doing great! The goal is that he might be able to taper off the Apoquel and maybe the serum, but it is too soon to tell.
