Ludwig learns from Justus that Maria's mental confusion seems to be getting out of hand and that she is secretly making items disappear from the castle. Ansgar is pleased and tries to push ahead with having Maria declared legally incompetent. Only Maria's seemingly logical explanations can change Ludwig's mind. When Maria also reveals her intention to leave the castle and move into her own home, Ansgar sees his plans slipping away. Ludwig and Elisabeth interpret Maria's departure as a good sign. But they don't suspect that Maria is hatching a crazy plan to take Ludwig with her to her new home.
Faced with Nico's doubts, Philipp sees no future in their relationship and leaves. When she realizes that the detective has been artificially stirring up the conflict between the couple to get information, she visits Philipp one last time. She's dismayed to find that he's already left Düsseldorf. When he does reappear, she realizes how much she loves him and they reconcile. But she doesn't suspect that he's hiding a crucial piece of evidence from her: Antonia's diary.
While Arno struggles with his exam, even resorting to underhanded tactics to pass, Andi is completely successful with the bank's assessors. But when Arno learns the next day that Andi has signed important documents without authorization to appease the assessors, he flies into a rage. Only Miriam gently reminds him that he even accepted her cheat sheet to pass the exam does Arno see reason. He approaches Andi and makes it clear that he needs to finally focus on his career.
