How to Make Medieval Lucet Cord | tutorial
Hello everyone and welcome to a new video!
Today's video is a short tutorial on how to make lucet cord, a kind of medieval cord. I made some lucet cord for my Regency short stays in a video recently and I thought I would share the process, since I find it a really relaxing and easy craft. It is widely believed that lucet cord was commonly used in viking and medieval times. I have references for the little history description and images at the bottom of this description.
Lucets come in all shapes and sizes and you should be able to easily purchase one in a craft store or online. And then, the sky is the limit! You can pretty much use any kind and size of yarn to make the cord. The cord will be versatile and can be used practically (to close, tie, lace things) or decoratively (you could handsew it to dresses as trim, make bracelets, necklaces, etc). I've also taken my lucet on the train with me to pass the time as it's much less high maintenance than sewing on the train! I'd just like to mention that I am no expert, but if you have any questions, I will try to answer them as much as I can :)

Possible Lucet cord in Tudor times in
Acton Court: The Evolution of an Early Tudor Courtier's House by Kirsty Rodwell, page 403, though it does describe the cord as ‘round’, which goes against all other evidence I’ve found.
