Even for the strongest of people, there are times in life when we will need help from others. Perhaps now is one of those times, and yet you aren't sure where to turn. Maybe you have reached out to family members and friends, taken their advice, and incorporated suggestions from books you've read or TV shows you've seen - but you are still feeling like you need some more help. It is also true that sometimes other people don't understand our problems and can even invalidate our thoughts and feelings of suffering. Therapy is an awesome pathway to getting help for your problems because it provides you with a human connection that is reliable, validating, and fully centered around YOU.
Therapy can offer a safe space for you to come to on a regular basis in order to do important work delving inwards and better understanding yourself. You can get help for a particular problem at hand, but you can also learn more about your strengths and resiliency that have helped you get to where you are today. You can learn skills that are invaluable tools in addressing problems in the future. You can disengage with old patterns and habits that no longer suit you while better understanding where they came from. You can learn what healthy relationships look and feel like to you. You can improve at setting boundaries with others and grow in self-compassion for yourself. I see therapy as a corrective relationship that helps the client better understand themselves and their own goals and obstacles. It is a brave choice to seek help, and as your therapist, I will try my best to make that decision as rewarding as possible.
