This work of Beethoven has been one of the most famous masterpieces of world music for many years. But who is this Eliza? Musicologists still argue about this. There are several applicants at once. To whom of them was this little masterpiece dedicated 210 years ago?
Not so long ago, Berlin musicologist Klaus Kopitz did find Elisabeth in Beethoven's life - Elisabeth Röckel. Eliza was then 17 years old, Beethoven - 39. There are memories that he was quite in love with her and was very worried when she rejected his advances. In 1810, Röckel left for another city, which is explained by the dedication "in memory". For many years, music historians could not find Elisabeth Röckel in Beethoven's life, because in fact her name was Maria Eva: that name was given to her at her baptism. But she did not like this name, and as a teenager she, so to speak, appropriated a different name for herself - the then fashionable Elizabeth, which her mother wore. And in the circle of friends her name was Eliza.
Morbius.
