The Effect Pedal Based On The Big Muff Fuzz Circuit Can Sound Different
In a recent live stream on my second Polish channel, we built a new pedal based on the classic Big Muff circuit. Now, before you think, “Oh great, another Big Muff clone,” let me stop you right there. This isn’t just a clone – this is the Space Muffin.
Today, I’m breaking down why, even though it’s built on a well-known circuit, this pedal sounds totally different. Guitar pedals are made up of electronic components that shape the sound of your instrument in all kinds of ways, and we’ve taken the Big Muff apart block by block, experimented with the design, and ended up with something fresh and exciting.
During the stream, we tweaked the original design by swapping components and removing others, resulting in a unique distortion sound. The result? The Space Muffin, complete with an extended EQ (Tone & Mids controls), two operation modes, and an octave boost mode that brings out some sweet lows and octave harmonics when you crank it up.
