Armed Burglar Arrested After Standoff
From Ceres Police:
On May 6th, 2022 at 4:23 PM, Ceres Police Officers responded to the 2000 block of
Garland Ct for a male who had shattered a front window of a home and entered the house armed
with a “machete” type weapon. A victim and her child were inside the house and was able to hid
in the house as the male began kicking open locked doors inside the house. The male forced
open the locked interior door of the room where the victims was hiding, however the male did
not find the victims. The adult victim was able to see the male and did not know the male at all.
The male left the house prior to the first officers arriving. Once the victims and home
were secured, Officers were able to get a vehicle description the suspect had arrived in. A
canvas of the area revealed the suspect vehicle (a white Nissan 350Z) was parked near Yolanda
Street and Helen Perry Road.
Officer Jonathan Blount pulled behind the suspect vehicle and got out of his vehicle as
the suspect got out of the suspect vehicle. The male, identified as Michael Danh 25 years old
from Ceres, was armed with two knives, one being a machete. Michael stood at his vehicle and
would not drop the weapons. Additional officers quickly arrived, including members of the
Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, and attempted to contain Michael while they attempted
to negotiate with him. Detective Julio Amador responded to the scene and began negotiating
with Michael who was agitated and refusing to put down his weapons. A stand-off of
approximately an hour took place as officers tried to reason with Michael and used de-escalation
tactics which ultimately did not work with him.
Michael refused to put his weapons down for almost an hour and then he began
advancing towards the officers and Officer Blount’s patrol car. Michael was close enough to the
car that he began hitting the front bumper of the patrol car with the machete. Due to Michael’s
actions and the danger he posed to the officers and himself the officers used a less lethal option
against Michael which worked. Michael was taken into custody without further incident.
Michael was positively identified as at male who had broken into the home on Garland Ct.
Michael was medically treated and eventually booked into jail at the Stanislaus Public Safety
Center where he faces charges of residential burglary, resisting an officer, child endangerment,
and vandalism.
