We try to find the best Operating System for 2 different retro builds.
To do this, we take each system through Windows 98, Me, 2000, XP, Vista and 7 and compare the results with: Super PI, Sandra 99, CPU Mark 99, Cachemem, PC Mark 2002, 3D Mark 99, 3D Mark 2000, 3D Mark 2001, AquaMark 3, Unreal Gold, Unreal Tournament 2003, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Serious Sam The Second Encounter, Quake 3 Arena.
Build 1: Intel Pentium 4 2.4Ghz, Abit BH7, MSI FX 5900, 2x512Mb Ram, WD 250Gb, Sound Blaster Live CT 4620
Build 2: AMD Athlon64 X2 4200+, Abit AV8, Albatron 6600GT, 2x1Gb Ram, WD 250Gb, Sound Blaster Live CT 4620
Due to issues of the AV8 we introduce another socket 939 motherboard the DFI NF3 LanParty Ultra-D to replace the ABIT in the second build.
Sidequest: Measuring the frames lost in FRAPS and Afterburner for the graphics benchmarks and games and also trying to use affinity to decrease the impact of the frames measuring software.
