Dr. Sheila R. Thomas is the founder of Thomas Educational Consulting and Training and Great Day Publishing. She utilizes her brand to train, facilitate, and educate parents and teachers with curricula and books she has written. She has written two curriculums Prepping for Preschool: Helping Parents to Be Successful as Your Child’s First Teacher! and Culturally Responsive Early Literacy Training for parents and teachers.
Dr. Thomas has written and published two books, an inspirational book for women and a motivational book for children. Her first book, W.A.I.T.: Women Anticipating Incredible Turnaround, is a transparent testament to painful situations in her life or the life of friends and family. It tells how she and others experienced a change by relying on God's word to lead and guide them to an incredible turnaround. Her second book, J.R.'s Biggest Fan, is a story about a mother’s unconditional love for her son. As J.R.'s character makes mistakes throughout his everyday life, his mother is always there for him, encouraging him to be the best that he can be. She encourages him never to give up.
Dr. Thomas received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Early Childhood Education from Albany State University. She graduated with a Specialist degree in Curriculum Instruction, Management, and Administration and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from NOVA Southeastern University. She has worked in the early childhood field for over 30 years as a teacher, college professor, Bright from the Start Trainer, and CDA specialist. She has presented at the Georgia Association for the Education of Young Children (GAEYC) conference, Headstart conference, and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, Future Educators conference. Dr. Thomas retired in May of 2020 but continues to work in the field as a part-time teacher for Valdosta City Schools and as an adjunct Instructor at Valdosta State University.
She is a wife and mother of three handsome sons and one grandson. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the National Council of Negro Women, Lowndes/Valdosta Albany State Alumni Chapter, the National Black Child Development Institute, and is active in her church.
She spends her days reading and meditating on God’s word for guidance and instruction. Her motto is that if I can help someone along the way, my living won’t be in vain.
