Local self-government is a cornerstone of democracy. While citizen-centred municipal policy drives local development, well-managed municipalities are vital levers for social cohesion. The CoMun programme (‘Coopération Municipale – Strengthening local development and democracy, Maghreb’), which GIZ is implementing under a commission from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), aims to strengthen cities as actors of local and national development. What exactly does CoMun do on site? What partnerships has it already forged and which topics and activities does CoMun embrace and implement? Offering an insight into CoMun’s work, this film was first screened at the ‘2nd German-Maghreb Dialogue on Urban Development’, which was held in Bamberg from 4 - 6 September 2016.
