BETTER is built around the figure of Nassim - a clean-cut face topped by a beautiful afro - without making him a hero. The words of those who have accompanied and surrounded him since his beginnings on the board count as much as his own: parents, friends and sponsors speak frankly to tell his story, while sometimes unwillingly distilling information about a youth in search of itself.
Smoking, truancy, the worries of parents who don’t understand much about the sport, and heavy-handed preconceptions are all mentioned in passing, without excessive insistence. Nevertheless, it’s enough to understand all the obstacles Nassim Lachhab has had to overcome - and sometimes continues to face, if we think, for example, of the visas required to travel - in order to make a living from his passion.
Insisting on his friend’s pugnacity, his capacity to try and try again this or that trick, even to the point of injuring himself, Kamal Ourahou constructs a feature-length film that aims to be "a manifesto for Moroccan skateboarding".
