Faulting Animation
Faults are the point between two formations where observable movement has occurred.
These can be active (still moving) or inactive (finished moving a long time ago).
Oil reservoirs need impermeable cap rock above them to hold in the hydrocarbons. Faults can bring these impermeable formations into contact with the oil and gas, thus creating a reservoir.
