The Jet Age Museum
The Jet Age Museum was set up to highlight the important contribution that Gloucestershire’s engineers had in the history and development of aviation in Britain.
The museum has been here for a very long time, but was extensively refurbished in 2013 into what we see here today.
The exhibitions are ever changing and the staff, all of whom are volunteers, are extremely knowledgeable. Indeed, most of them are ex-RAF or ex-engineers who have either flown or had some previous involvement with the aircraft on show.
On display are examples of fighter planes and passenger planes, both past and present as well as jet engines, missiles, and other memorabilia from airplane history.
Entry to the car park and the museum is free. There is a quiz for little ones to do on the way round and lots of cockpits for them to sit in. The two cockpits outside are height restricted and not accessible to those with mobility issues.
The museum sits along the edge of Staverton Airport and there are picnic benches outside on a grassy area where you can sit and watch planes and helicopters landing and taking off.
There is also a small café, toilets and souvenirs.
This museum really does highlight the massive and important contribution of Gloucestershire’s companies and people in Britain’s aviation history.
