We hung out with these Crazy Elephants in Thailand!
You can't go to Thailand without having an elephant experience…
First we took a treacherous drive up the mountain to where the elephants roam free at the Chiang Mai Elephant Sanctuary.
When we arrived, we got a cool tour of their facility including botany lessons on the plants in the area and slid down the path to get to the sanctuary.
Once we had donned our native Karen Tribe outfits, we met the elephants and got to know them by feeding them bushels and bushels of bananas! So. Many. Bananas.
After snack time for our new friends, we gave them a mud bath to help their skin and then hiked down the mountain to wash it all off in the river below. We played in the river splashing the elephants, watching the baby elephant play in the water, and enjoying time with our new friends.
Our time at the sanctuary ended with some delicious Thai food served on a deck overlooking the elephants home (which means we got to keep interacting with them by sharing our watermelon!)
Add in a whole lot of rain, sliding down those mud hills, and our crazy kids…..and you'll quickly see this how this adventure of a lifetime was one of our favorite moments of our Thailand trip!
