Special thanks to our Customer for the permission to show the fault with his Cobra 148GTL-DX MK1 (PB-879AB Chassis).
The Cobra 148GTL-DX has a "Black Spirit" UK40FM 27/81 "Legal" board installed. The Voltage Regulator Transistor (7805) on the Black Spirit board is unbelievably soldered to "L14" the VCO Mixer Coil.
Not enough "Heatsink" for the regulator, so the transistor goes into "thermal runaway" and literally cooks coil L14 (VCO Mixer) causing the "Q" of the VCO circuit to radically change, ensuring all the faults shown and listed in the video.
If your Cobra 148GTL-DX has a Black Spirit board installed, we would suggest the radio is urgently inspected and modified against the issues highlighted by Cobraworxshopz Technicians.
