Charlie Laurent | Rhode Island History Teacher of the Year
5th grade teacher, Charlie Laurent, has been named the Rhode Island History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.
The recognition was extended by a panel of teachers, administrators, and scholars from Rhode Island who selected Charlie for his achievements in American history and education. To put that in context, in 2021, a record 8,510 teachers nationwide were nominated for the History Teacher of the Year Award.
As part of the recognition, Rocky Hill Country Day will receive a core archive of American history books and Gilder Lehrman educational materials.
Inaugurated in 2004, the History Teacher of the Year Award highlights the crucial importance of history education by honoring exceptional American history teachers from elementary school through high school. The award honors one K-12 teacher from each state, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense schools, and US Territories.
