❗ The Battle of Warsaw, which took place on August 15, 1920, near Warsaw – also known as the Miracle on the Vistula – was the decisive point of the Polish-Bolshevik War. ⚔
The main players on the Polish side were Józef Piłsudski, Tadeusz Rozwadowski, Józef Haller, and Władysław Sikorski, and the Volunteer Army under General Józef Haller played a significant role in this battle.
The appeal of the State Defense Council, signed by Józef Piłsudski: "Let not one of Poland's faithful and true sons fail to heed Poland's call, who, following the example of their fathers and grandfathers, will lay the enemy at the feet of the Republic of Poland. All for victory! To arms!" – was responded to by all walks of life and social classes. Over 100,000 people, including 30,000 Warsaw residents, joined the ranks of the Volunteer Army. ❗ "Poland owes its salvation to its own efforts, and I hope that by its own example it will save Europe." [Winston Churchill, British Secretary of State for War, August 1920]
