This method consists of a combination of pressure and pedal flushing to move brake fluid through the system with sufficient velocity and volume to effectively remove contamination, especially copper. The reason you need to know how to flush a brake system, is because there could be high levels of copper in Brake Fluid. This could cause corrosion to ABS brake system components and may indicate that the corrosion inhibitors are depleted. Brake fluid with 200 ppm or higher copper levels will not pass Department of Transportation (DOT) FVMSS-116 corrosion test standards this will require you to flush a brake system. If you are wanting to get a lot of the copper out you need to flush the brake system at each caliper. Also when you flush a brake system make sure you flush the master cylinder.
Knowing how to flush a brake system can’t guarantee that all the copper will leave the system. But this system will help decrease a lot of the copper out of the system.
