In this video, intended for second-year high school students in the science and technology streams, we will focus on periodic and sinusoidal mechanical waves, which can be mathematically modeled by sinusoidal functions of the following form: Y(t) = Asin(wt + φ). We will also focus on their physical properties, particularly their temporal and spatial periodicities, as well as the dispersive nature of the propagation media and the dependence of the wave speed on the wave frequency. We will also examine the phenomenon of diffraction, carefully studied by renowned physicists such as Huygens, Fresnel, and Kirchhoff. This phenomenon characterizes all wave phenomena and plays a crucial role in microscopy, holography, and many cutting-edge technologies such as X-ray and electron diffraction. We hope that this lesson will teach you many new facts and help you better understand wave phenomena in particular and the physical sciences in general. The world of physics and chemistry is not a different world, but the one you live in every day. Thank you for your support, dear students, and look forward to another lesson with us.
