WHAT YOU DO: As a Music Publisher, you are in charge of finding and contacting composers and licensing all compositions utilized in works for the projects your company produces. You are also responsible for making sure that the composer or recording artist gets paid for his work and receives royalties every time the piece is played publicly after its initial publishing.
EDUCATION: A bachelors degree in music business, music industry management, or music. Masters degree programs are in place so students can graduate with a combined bachelors degree and Master of Business Administration in a five-year period.
USEFUL SKILLS: solid understanding of music, music publishing, and music law. Strong social skills and networking abilities.
HOW TO GET IN: Students commonly have participated in music industry internship experiences, which could allow for additional hands on experience working with qualified professionals in the field.
