I wrote this song with my dear friend David Gavan Baxter in tribute to our first meeting, nearly 18 years ago.
We were both at my friend Joanne MacKell's Jambo on Ward's Island, Toronto. The band was playing a waltz, and we stood watching everyone around us dancing. I boldly, and laughingly, asked if he wanted to dance. He said he didn't know how. I said, "me neither. But we can make up our own dance!"
And that was the beginning of our friendship and a very fruitful working relationship. He helped me on my 3rd record, produced my 4th (Silhouette).
Baxter also gave me a lot of confidence in my self at a time when I had none. He gave me some life changing advice.
In 2010 we wrote this song together and he put it on his record Patina as a duet with me.
Now that he's gone, I feel so lucky that I received so much wisdom and musical knowledge from him. And most of all I'm truly grateful that we became such good friends, traveled many places together, and I got to spend some of his final hours beside him.
Check out David's music wherever you listen to music.
