Holy Trinity Orthodox Church

Holy Trinity Cathedral in Karakol was built on the site of the old Orthodox Church, built in 1876. The existing building was built between 1890-1895. Under Soviet rule, the church housed a dance hall, and during the Second World War, a school.
A wooden church stands on a stone foundation. Five domes that once crowned the church were destroyed in Soviet times. Today, several old icons have been preserved inside the church, including icons rescued from the church of the village of Svetly Cape, and a copy of the Holy Trinity othe famous Russian icon painter Andrei Rublev. Divine services are regularly held in the church, since 1961 reconstruction work has been underway.
