Annoying Grain on a bentgrass green
Long-time PACE Turf member Mike Hathaway, CGCS, has an interesting grain issue on Green 17, a nine-year old G6 green at The Bridges at Rancho Santa Fe. The impact is primarily visual, but golf is a very visual game. In this video, we spend some time studying this green with Alexander Yost, a Michigan State University intern working at The Bridges. None of the standard grooming and vertical mowing practices have been able been able to eliminate grain.Ball roll is not impacted but the visual impact might interfere with reading the green for long putts.
