Roleplaying Is Under Attack Again
The Forbidding Unlawful Representation of Roleplaying in Education Act (yes, the F.U.R.R.I.E.S Act) is a real bill introduced in Texas, and it’s as absurd as it sounds. Under this proposed law, students could be punished for wearing animal-themed accessories, making creature noises, or even participating in D&D, TTRPG, and LARPing clubs. The language is vague, the implications are alarming, and the punishments? Harsh.
This bill echoes the Satanic Panic of the ‘80s—except now, it's targeting roleplaying and self-expression in schools under the guise of maintaining "human behavior." What does this really mean? How far does it go? And why is it being pushed now?
