French baritone sings Filipino folk song, Dandansoy (Trad./Nilo Alcala)
Maxime Micoin is a French baritone and composer who discovered Filipino music during the first Harana concert in 2022 where he sang the Tagalog kundiman, 'Dahil sa Iyo', as part of a mixed choir. In 2023, he performed a solo number singing the Pangasinense love song, 'Malinac lay Labi', for Harana 2: Musika Noon at Ngayon. He reprised his role as a solo performer in Harana 3: Lakbay (27 April 2024) to sing the beloved song, Dandansoy.
Renowned Filipino-American composer, Nilo Alcala, gifted Pinoy Jam Paris with the rights to use and perform his wonderful arrangement at the Harana 3: Lakbay concert in recognition of the association's efforts to present Filipino music in France.
Dandansoy is a popular Hiligaynon folk song about bidding farewell to a beloved, named Dandansoy, to go to a distant place (Palau). The song reflects themes of love, longing, and separation. The song is also sometimes used as a lullaby for its soft melody.
