While filming on the Alvord Desert playa this towering dust devil formed right in front of OPB's "Oregon Field Guide" crew. 🌪️🌀

While most dust devils last only seconds, the biggest can persist for over an hour and can span nearly 300 feet wide. This one was a beast - the camera was shaking from the powerful winds as photographer Cameron Nielsen was filming. Dust devils form when superheated ground causes vertical air currents which create whirlwinds. The dry, dusty playa is the perfect breeding ground. This was an experience the crew will never forget! 😵
