And then there's Plants vs. Zombies – a tower defense game that, with sunflowers, pea shooters, and Crazy Dave, conquered not only the gardens but also the hearts of millions of players. But what began as a charming idea from George Fan was later pulled in all directions by EA: Garden Warfare, mobile spin-offs, microtransactions, and a "PvZ 3" that hardly anyone wanted.
