Hey everybody this is Aaron Whitehead, welcome to Learn to Play the Piano.
This is lesson one of a series of short lessons. In this video we will focus on the notes of the piano keyboard. The piano keyboard is laid out in a series of repeating notes, white keys and black keys. The notes of the keyboard are given the first 7 letters of the alphabet. A-B-C-D-E-F and G.
A is located just to the right of the middle of the three black keys. B is to the right of the three black keys. C is the note just to the left of the two black keys. D is the note located just in the middle of the two black keys. E is located just above the two black keys, F is the note to the left of the three black keys, G is located to the left of the middle black key, of the three. A again repeats and the piano continues to repeat in this series all the way up between A,B,C,D,E,F,G and A again.
Now the black keys identify sharps and flats in between the notes. So the black key between A and B is called A sharp (A#) or B flat (Bb). The black note that is located between C and D is both C sharp (C#) and D flat (Db) and the black note between D and E would be called either D sharp (D#) or E flat (Eb). In the series of three black notes you have to the left the note that is located between F and G which is F sharp (F#) or G flat (Gb), and then above the G you have a black note which is either G sharp (G#) or A flat (Ab).
Now those 12 notes make up the entire piano keyboard. The notes just continue to repeat over and over again across the keyboard.
